As mentioned before, the circuits in your home are wired in parallel. However, there is a series component to your home wiring. Because of this, your home has hybrid or complex circuits. In these circuits, there is a breaker at the main panel that is wired in series with the parallel circuit. When that breaker detects too high a load (from an improperly wired circuit, a short in the circuit, or too many high-current devices plugged into a single circuit), the breaker will cut power to the circuit.
