When Smart Lighting first came out, incandescent lights were still quite popular. As mentioned before, Smart Lighting was almost always LED-based. This meant that the LEDs put out the same amount of light for about a tenth of the power needed. Now that incandescent bulbs have been replaced by CFL and Halogen bulbs, LEDs are still about five times more efficient than Halogen bulbs and about twice as efficient as CFLs.
Looking at it another way, a 60-watt incandescent light bulb would use 60 watts of power. If a person used that bulb for an hour, that would be 60 watt-hours of power. A similar Halogen bulb would use about 42 watts of power, so it could run for almost an hour and a half on the same power the incandescent bulb used in one hour. A similar CFL uses about 14 watts of power, so it could run for over four hours on the same power an incandescent bulb used in one hour. A similar LED uses about 9 watts of power, so it could run for nearly seven hours on the same power that the incandescent bulb used in one hour.
This shows that you could light up a room with a handful of LED lights and still use less energy than using a single incandescent bulb!
