In this activity, you will go through the bid process and submit a bid to a homeowner adding an electric circuit to a newly constructed room in their home. The homeowner is requesting the installation of a circuit consisting of a single-pole, single-throw switch next to the door, an overhead, center-mounted LED light, and four outlets in the center of each wall.
Your goals:
- Use your Betabox Electrician Foundations and Futures Hands-On Project box to help you visualize what is needed for the circuit.
- Create a rough sketch of the room (see video) with:
- Placement of the outlets (12” up from the floor)
- Placement of the switch (48” up from the floor)
- Placement of the light (center of the room in the ceiling)
- Cable run distances between each component in the circuit
- Create a circuit diagram of the proposed circuit
- Price out each component:
- Switch
- LED Light Fixture
- Outlets
- Outlet/Switch Boxes
- Fixture Box
- Wire (including 20 feet between the room and the service panel)
- Wire staples
- Wire nuts (if applicable)
- 15 amp Breaker
- Create a bid proposal
- Estimate 3 hours of labor (wage is your choice)
- Estimate $200 permit
- Include Overhead (your choice)
- Include Profit Margin (your choice)
- Include Markup (your choice)
