Lesson Activity - Wiring a Single-Pole Switch to 1 and 2 LEDs

Grab your screwdriver, wirecutter/stripper, both LEDs, two wire nuts, an 8-10” length of cable, and your WorkBench with Load Center. Follow along with the video to practice removing the sheath from cable, stripping individual wires, using the screwdriver to attach a wire to the screw terminal of the switch, connecting wires with nuts, and connecting the LEDs in series and parallel.

Your goal:

• Cut an 8-10” piece of 3-strand cable
• Prepare the cable by stripping the sheathing, stripping the wires, and preparing the cable as shown in the video
• Connect the Hot and Load to the bottom and top screw terminals of the switch, respectively
• Connect the cable to the Hot and Neutral of the Load Center
• Follow along to create a circuit with one LED controlled by the switch
• Create a Parallel Circuit with two LEDs controlled by the switch
• Create a Series Circuit with two LEDs controlled by the switch
• Compare and contrast the two circuits
• Once you feel comfortable with these skills, remove all connections and cut your cable clean to prepare for the next lesson!
