🎨 Designing a Car Ornament Copy

Let’s have some fun by designing a special car ornament.

We are going to use Tinkercad, which is a designing tool. If you’ve never used this software before, take the free Getting Started with Tinkercad Quest here.

When you are ready to begin, download the .stl file by clicking this link:

https://betaboxlearningvideo.s3.amazonaws.com/mybetabox/sdc/EthernetFlagPort.stl

Import this .stl file into Tinkercad.

Load the file into the window.

It will look like this:

Get creative! Design a special ornament shape that will fit on this base.

Preparing for 3D Printing

We need to do a few things to this design to ensure that it will print. Let’s walk through those steps now.

  1. First, delete the Ethernet Template. Click on the model you imported at the start of your project and delete it. We just used it for sizing and we will print that in second step later on.

Group the parts together and lower the object down onto the build plane.

Export Design

You can download this file for 3D printing by exporting as an .stl file.

Here are some sneak peeks of what it looked like to 3D print my ornament.
