Activity 1: Automated Block Stacking

Overview

In this section, you will be experiencing the automated block-stacking program. This program should already be loaded onto your ESP32 and look very familiar because you used it to test your arm as you built it.

Needed Materials

  • Robotic Arm on Workbench Base
  • Two Foam Blocks
  • Power Supply

Setting Up The Activity

Before plugging the arm into power make sure that you have plenty of space around the arm for it to move freely. We recommend 12 inches in each direction just to be safe.

Once your arm is in an open space, you can follow the steps below to set up the activity:

  1. Plug in the barrel jack to supply power.
  2. Observe the motion of the arm making sure that everything looks smooth and that the servos are working properly.
  3. Observe where the arm goes at the beginning of the movement. This is the starting point for your stack of two blocks.
  4. Unplug from power and tuck your arm back to the base position.
  5. Add your stack of two blocks where the arm was moving at the beginning of its movement.
  6. Plug in the barrel jack to supply power.
  7. Observe as the arm moves the blocks back and forth for infinity or until it loses power.

Troubleshooting

If you notice your arm is not picking up the blocks or exhibiting strange behavior check below to see if you can solve the issue.
