🔍What’s What? Copy

Note: If you have received a Raspberry Pi Setup Kit in addition to your Robot Car Box, click here to access the setup guide.

It will be helpful to know what all your Betabox components are called so that you have a shared language to communicate and collaborate. Many industries have different names for the same things, called jargon, that are specific to their fields.  Think about it like work nicknames for your materials. You may want to open this page in a new tab to reference as you work through the assembly process.

Let’s get started! Unpack the black acrylic components in your kit and take a moment to learn what each piece is called.

NoteSome quantities and items may vary depending on which version of the car you have received. Instructions for these versions can be found within the module sections.

Note: Components 4, 5, and 6 are additional parts that accompany the camera follow-on modules and are not included in the standard Self-Driving Car Betabox kit.

Now, check out the servo accessories baggie. You should have three sets of these.

The mechanical fastener baggies will contain a variety of screws, nuts, and standoffs in different shapes and sizes. Take a moment to look and organize them.

Lots of stuff!

Check out the wire pack and familiarize yourself with them. You may have extra wires in your kit.

Here is the motor pack:

The yellow motors are going to be able to drive your car forwards and backwards and the servo is used for steering left and right!

You will have a set of wheels, a camera, and a ribbon in your pack. You will want to find a pair of scissors to cut the ribbon in half when we get to that step.

You’re also provided with a set of tools. The wrenches will be used to secure the nuts.

In addition to these car components, your Betabox Kit also includes the following:

  • 1 x microSD card pre-loaded with Raspbian
  • 1 x micro USB cable
  • 1 x battery charger

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, click Next Section to discover more advanced components in your Betabox.
