Consultation/Evaluation of Blueprints

For industrial projects or new constructions, you may be given blueprints or project-specific plans to look over. These plans are drawn to a scale. This means that for every inch on the paper, it may correspond to several feet at the construction site. Being able to make sense of these blueprints is an important skill.

For existing remodels, you’ll likely do a consultation with the homeowner. In this meeting, you’ll talk to the homeowner about what he/she would like the end project to look like. You’ll likely visit the room or rooms where work will take place, investigate the breaker box, make direct measurements, and take very good, detailed notes.

Armed with the proper information, you can begin the next step of the bidding process, doing the takeoff and calculations.
